The importance of having training in a foreign country is in the necessity of knowing another language and to having an attractive profile for the working market.

48 % of the qualified employment offers already require a new language and professional experience. Living and Working in a foreign country furthermore supposes a personal enrichment and gives an extended point of view which we all should have in a more and more global world.

The unemployment has converted itself in a disease of the actual society which we all intend to solve with divers methods without definite results. For ONECO, factors which contribute the education are the international professional training and the knowledge of foreign languages.

Geographical area.- Salzburg, Vienna and mountain regions/ski resorts in Austria.

Working environment.- 3* - 5* hotels, restaurants and museums/art galleries.

Professional sectors.- Kitchen assistant, room maid, waiter, bar person, reception, laundry personnel, animator,  maintenance staff, general assistant, restaurant employee, museum security, audio guide delivery in museums, etc...

WORK IN AUSTRIA

Type of work.- Jobs in hotel Reception are only possible if the participant has an excellent knowledge of German plus previous work experience.

Working hours.- A typical working week is between 38 and 40 hours. Flexibility may be required depending upon the hotel and the season.

Wages.- The participant must sign a three party work placement contract (the company, the participant and the ONECO partner) where the obligations and working conditions are set out. The minimum guaranteed wage is 5.07 € per hour, depending upon the establishment and the type of employment. 

Length of contract.- The length of the programme depends upon the work establishment (from 2 months till 1 year). Some are open throughout the year, other only during the high season, from October to April.
 
Enrolment dates.- ONECO needs the completed enrolment form a minimum of 2 months before the start of the programme, in order to organise the paid work placement in Austrian hotels and museums.

Requirements.- Participants must be a minimum of 18 years old and have an acceptable level of German and/or English. Previous work experience is not a prerequisite, although some establishments prefer participants who have already worked in tourism.
 
Please bear in mind that the job offered may depend upon the participant’s level of German, plus his/her previous work experience as well as academic studies!!!

Language requirements.- This is optional. Participants with an advanced level of German may commence with the paid work experience programme without the need to attend a language course (we do however recommend participation in a one week course to assist with adaptation to the local language and customs). If the participant needs to improve German language skills before commencing the work placement period, ONECO can offer the possibility of studying in recognised German language academies in Salzburg and Vienna.

Please note that in some hotels knowledge of English is necessary!

Social Security.- Each participant must have an insurance policy which covers accidents and illness. European Community participants without private insurance must travel with the EU HEALTH INSURANCE CARD issued by his/her home country.
ONECO will supply those participants who so wish (EU and non EU) an additional private insurance policy with an international company.  Non EU participants must have their own private insurance.

VISA- very important (non European Community participants).- For non European Union participants or those who normally require a work permit or visa to enter into Austria, it is of utmost importance that the visa obtained is for studying purposes and NOT for tourism. To obtain this, the following must be included in the prospective participant’s application:
 
1.- That the prospective participant will take part in a 2 week (minimum) language course.

2.- That the programme to be carried out in Austria is on the basis of  work placement with discretionary payment (although compulsory) for the hotel or company.

3.- That the prospective participant supplies a letter from his/her school, university or any other professional tutor where it is mentioned that the work placement is a necessary part of the applicant’s continued education/training.  These documents should be checked with the help of the Austrian consulate of the applicant’s home country.

Other documents.- A copy of the prospective participant’s C.V. is required, along with a motivational letter written in German which sets out previous work experience and what goals are hoped to be achieved through work experience in Austria.

Cancellations.- Cancellations after the application forms have been sent to ONECO incur a charge of €180. Once the programme has begun, no refund is made. Booking charges cost €50.
